I’ve been waiting for this book since I first stumbled upon Sarah Mae’s blog five years ago. I knew enough about her story to know that it would be about forgiveness…that it would be about boundaries… that it would be about love.
But I didn’t know Sarah would also hold up a magnifying glass to her own past. It’s rare that any of us examines our roots so closely… let alone shares them. In The Complicated Heart, Sarah gets vulnerable in a way that is so unafraid, you can’t doubt that her security is found in Jesus.
I put the book down wanting to know that the foundation of my life rests on Him, and Him alone, too. When my identity is in Him, I don’t have to be afraid that “they” may hurt me. When my security is in Him, I don’t have to be afraid that I’ll try to mix forgiveness with boundaries and fail. When my righteousness is in Him, I don’t have to be afraid that my love won’t be enough — because it was never about me anyway. It was always about Him, and His love never runs dry.
Throughout the book, Sarah continually refers to God as gentle. With her skillful storytelling, she’s written in a gentle way, too. I was afraid it might be difficult to read. Not so. There are parts of Sarah’s story that make you want to weep for the little girl she was, but every chapter ends in hope.
I’ll keep this post short and sweet, because I know what you really want to know about — the giveaway! One of the blessings of being a blogger is the opportunity to read early copies of books, and link arms with the author as she launches her book-baby. I can’t send you my early copy (I’m keeping that one!) — but I am excited to be able to offer a giveaway of an on-time copy here on my site!
Here’s how to enter: simply leave a comment below, letting us know why you’d like to read this book. (You may be as specific, or as general, as you like.)
That’s it! I’ll choose and announce a winner Tuesday evening! (Contest limited to readers in the continental U.S.) Then I’ll preorder you a copy so that you get it on release day!
And if you’d like to go ahead and preorder your own copy (so that you can qualify for some goodies before the book releases on 9/17) you can order your copy of The Complicated Heart here.
Oh, and there’s also a giveaway on the Instagram page, if you’d like to hop over there for two chances to win 🙂
Happy reading!
